Type of tool:
Activity
Duration:
60-90 min
Topics addressed:
Communication
Networking
Social inclusion

Tool takes 60 minutes which involves participants to a simulation activity. At least 20 participants suggested for better interaction amoung participants.Aim of the tool is supporting youth workers for Understanding the essence of cooperation in youth sect

Aim:

Aim of the tool is facilitating dialogue between stakeholders in the field of youth. Young people and youth workers are the main target group of the method as they can improve their understanding about the essence of cooperation in youth sector.

Methodology:

Tool is a simulation method where youth work represented in a Continent called Includia. This simulation is inspired by training courses of Tuğba Cansalı and Mehmet Volkan Müderrisoğlu whom I call as queen and king of simulation method. Thanks to them for the inspiration.

Step by step process:

Continent Includia is introduced to the participants with it’s story.
Story: Includia is a continent where participants are going to live in different regions of Includia.
Training room has to be prepared for Includia with it’s 7 different unique places for 7 group of participants.
These groups are:
Association for Healthy Includians
Association of Higher Employment
Association of Mobility Across Includia
Trainers
Youth Voice Network
International Fund
Youth Pub
Participants are divided into 7 groups in advance
*3 Youth Associations in 3 different regions (3 pax for each, total 9 pax)
*Trainers (3 pax )
*Youth Voice Network(3 pax)
*International Fund(2 pax)
*Young people(6pax)
Tasks are given to the participants in Includia

Materials and resources:

Flag, chairs&tables in regions, Tape, Stationary, Glue, Volunteers to prepare training room for Includia in a creative way

Outcomes:

Crucial competences are developed related to working together e.g.: communication, negotiation, cooperation, conflict resolution, problem solving, creativity, adaptability towards the demand, understanding the instructions.

Evaluation:

After simulation activity trainer should make sure participants get out of their roles. Debrief can take around 20 minutes depending on participants. It is good in terms of increasing engagement of participants.

Disadvantage is that it requires quite a lot preperation and effort. Room should be designed in a appropriate way so that participants engage with their roles. It is adviced that you make sure other team of trainers are ready to help you. In my case I had creative and helpful teamates Thanks to Hatice Yıldırım, Basia Ligas and Mehmet Burak Demircan.

For simulation second training room is prefered which is other than the main training room. It is better to have debrief somewhere out of the room where simulation take place. This helps you to take participants out of their role. This is important for avoiding possible continues context related discussions among participants during debrief.

Notes for further use:

I would like to deliver a WORKING WITH TOOLS workshop.

Tool is used for a training course for youth workers which is funded Turkish National Agency. Project was called Youth Voice: One step closer to sustainability in youth work (2014-1-TR01-KA105-004628) which is developed by non-governmental organization called Association of Renaissance Institute from Ankara.
