“R.E.A.D.Y. to Overcome- online” is a psychosocial support (PSS) program for children 7-11 years who have passed through stressful events-e.g-COVID-19 lockdowns.It consists of 10 online sessions that use arts&crafts to develop skills & cope with emotions.

Aim: 

The R.E.A.D.Y. to overcome e-toolkit aims to build a Resilient, Empathic, Aware, and Dynamic Young generation able to Overcome stressful events by learning to express themselves and healthily coping with their emotions.

Methodology: 

According to the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL), the social and emotional learning theory is “the process through which young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and emotional collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make a responsible and caring decision” (CASEL, 2020).

SEL in PSS programs

SEL aims to promote many qualities, including self-awareness, emotional literacy, cognitive flexibility, improved memory, resilience, persistence, motivation, empathy, social and relationship skills, effective communication, listening skills, self-esteem, self-confidence, respect, and regulation (INEE, 2016). Hence, this theory can be viewed as a vital component of psychosocial support (PSS) programs that educators can address to positively contribute to improving children’s psychosocial wellbeing (INEE, 2021).
PSS and SEL, grouped, can be considered essential for the wellbeing and learning of children.
