We know very little about other countries and cultures, and sometimes we have stereotyped knowledge so why don’t we learn about them in a creative way?

The activity is a process of intercultural learning, research, analysis and problem solving.


- Breaking the stereotype models about countries and cultures and enriching awareness and intercultural tolerance.
- Encouraging initiative and teamwork.


This tool integrates many methodologies of learning:

- Discovery based learning
- E-learning
- Problem based learning
- Cooperative learning

Step by step process: 

The participants randomly choose a country by putting their finger on a spinning world map globe colored with five main colors. After discovering what country is assigned to them, the group will go to a box relative to the color of the country on the map, and draw blindly a ball from the box that specifies the topics they will be researching and working on in their research.

-Topics vary between balls, but the subject of the social problem exists in all of them
-The Topics will be general information about countries, with a focus on social and cultural domain.
e.g. ((History, Geographic, Religion, Population,tourism,traditions,Social problems, Favorite sport, Favorite food dishes, Resources, industries, educational system...etc.)

Materials :
-World Map
- Five colors of cartons for create boxes
-15 balls " 5 colors as boxes colors" Small Shape to open it and put the topics inside it or Coloured papers shaped as a ball.

* Next Step:
We will ask participants to tell us, what they know about the topics in chosen country. (To evaluate the differences before and after activity).

* Then the group will be guided towards role distribution to research, analyze, and create solutions for the social problem they found in the selected country.

"Facilitator can give some instructions and guides to help participants during the research".

Distribution Roles:

Searching about different topics, Take notes on the Flip Chart, Discussion about solutions, Gathering Data and preparing presentation.

Materials need it for search :
- Laptops/or phones connected to the internet for research.
- A3 papers.
- Color pens.

* Then each group will present their work:
- Suggested solutions they came up with.
- Discuss the things they didn’t know about.
- Broken stereotypes
- The things that shocked or surprised them “special discovery”
- Similarities of the assigned country to their own.
- How their research and quest for solutions in other countries can be implemented to improve problems in their own societies and countries.
- Similarities of the assigned country to their own.
- What misconceptions they had before, and Impression after the experiment

- Laptop and projector for PowerPoint presentation or photos or videos.
- Sound system for video.

Materials and resources: 

- World map globe
- Small colored cardboard box
- Colored papers shaped as a ball , or colored balls that can be opened
- Laptops/or phones connected to the internet for research
- Laptop and projector for PowerPoint presentation or photos or videos
- Sound system for videos, music, ambiance for a dynamic or staged presentation.
- Flipcharts
- Colored pens


- Compiled multimedia database
- A group of potential activists and tolerant youth exposed to other cultures


-It's a reliable method help to promote intercultural living.

As we Know,Cultural diversity is important, because our countries, workplaces, and schools increasingly consist of various cultural, racial, and ethnic groups. We can learn from one another, but first we must have a level of understanding about each other in order to facilitate collaboration and cooperation.

- Work as a team , helps participants to understand each others and style of thinking in this kind of activity gave space to them to be Initiators to search for problems, analyze it, and find solutions that can fit the problem.

Notes for further use: 

The activity can be adapted according to the duration, age level, and some objectives by changing the titles and numbers of chosen criteria or restricting the choice to certain countries.
