Aim:

The HOP fosters online learning in Erasmus+ Youth in Action and European Solidarity Corps programmes. It offers growing number of online courses targeting different aspects of European youth work.

Methodology:

Online interactive learning platform, https://hop.salto-youth.net/

Step by step process:

1. Discovering the online platform: the vision of HOP and its different offers (trainings, activities, topics, formats)
2. Entering the playground: Exploring the HOP by playing in the Welcome course
3. Reflecting on the experience from the perspective of the platform and competences needed
4. Reflecting on the possible use in the future

Materials and resources:

A good WiFi connection and, if possible, additional laptops/computers.
Tables and chairs
Projector and the screen
Speakers

Outcomes:

Become aware of different formats of online courses and activities that can be developed on a Moodle platform
Insights of what works and what doesn’t in terms of online learning based on concrete experience (thinking also in terms of online, blended, hybrid)
Concrete activities that participants would be curious/willing to develop on the HOP (or some other Moodle) platform
Ideas on what support participants might need in order to develop and implement courses on the HOP (or some other Moodle) platform

Evaluation:

HOP, being based on Moodle technology is a very versatile resource that offers almost endless possibilities for creating dynamic and engaging courses. However, it is not necessarily the most initiative platform to use and it requires some commitment and a fair set of digital competences. If that commitment is there, then it can really become a playground for trying out and implementing different activities and platforms.

Notes for further use:

At the moment, the HOP is available for courses proposed by National Agencies and SALTO Resource Centres. That said, it gives an insight into developing and facilitating activities on any other Moodle platform and, at the same time, it offers periodic training courses to develop competences of facilitators to create their own online offers. As of later this autumn, there should be a possibility to offer the platform to all E+ and ESC beneficiary organisations, with the requirement that at least first course on HOP is prepared with support from mentor (HOP council member).
