Thomas Schmidinger holds a PhD in political sciences and co-founded the deradicalisation-NGO "Netzwerk Sozialer Zusammenhalt" (European Parliament Citizen´s Prize 2015). Schmidinger teaches at the Department of Political Science at Vienna University and at the MA for Intercultural Social Work at the University of Applied Science Vorarlberg. Schmidinger had a research fellowship at the University of Minnesota (USA) and at Prishtina University (Kosovo) and did a lot of field research in Syria, Iraq, Egypt and Sudan. He authored several books, peer-reviewed articles and popular articles about political Islam, Iraq, Syria, the Kurds and Migration.
