CO2 compensation workshops

The theme of the 16th International Tool Fair in Marseille is SUSTAINABILITY.

In order to allow participants and event staff to symbolically offset the CO2 produced by the event, carbon offset challenges will be organised on the morning of 23rd of November 2022.

These activities will be an integral part of the programme and can be chosen by participants in the same way as the tool workshops and the tool to explore, from the moment the online booking is opened, to build their own agenda.

This year the 16th International Tool Fair is offering you the possibility to compensate your carbon impact! For those who are ready to wake up early*, please feel free to join one of the following 3 Compensation Carbon workshop but take into account that you’ll probably need specific outfit!

CARBON COMPENSATION WORKSHOP 1

Surfrider

For more than 30 years, Surfrider Foundation Europe has been protecting, safeguarding, and enhancing the oceans and the people who enjoy them. It acts on a daily basis to fight against attacks on the coastal environment and its users and values the mobilization of citizens in favor of the protection of the ocean and the coastline.

Surfrider’s values are:

PASSION: the passion for the oceans, the coastline, and the pleasures they provide is the driving force behind everyone who supports Surfrider and guides the organisation's actions.

SHARING: surfrider is rooted in the value of sharing and participation through inclusion and diversity.

RESPECT: surfrider seeks a harmonious relationship between humans and nature.

As a participant in this CCW, you will have the chance to take part in the Ocean initiatives. Ocean Initiatives are waste collections involving the public and taking place all over Europe. They allow every citizen to take a first step in the movement to protect the oceans. By joining or organizing a collection on the initiativesoceanes.org website, you will become aware of the impacts of waste pollution, directly on the ground. By quantifying and qualifying the types of waste collected during the collection, you’ll contribute to pollution research and help influence legislation at the European level to reduce waste at source. More info on: https://surfrider.eu/l-equipe/

If those values and activities ring a bell to you, then join us for this compensation workshop activity. But don’t forget in your luggage: trainers, jumper, and/or jacket, hat/cap, and sunglasses if the weather is very good and of course a basket or shoes that do not fear anything (no dress or city shoes) and clothes for rain (just in case). And of course, don’t forget your water bottle!

PRACTICALITIES

This activity is open to up to 50 participants. Meeting point at the Hotel Front Desk.

3 departures: 7h30 (1st group) & 8h00 (2nd group) & 8h30 (3rd group). We will inform you about the exact leaving time the day before.

CARBON COMPENSATION WORKSHOP 2

Lycée des Calanques

The Lycée des Calanques, is an agricultural high school with a landscape vocation and is located on the edge of the Calanques National Park while remaining open to the city. In order to innovate and respond to the challenges of climate change and food resilience, the school has developed the "PAISAN-Ville" project: a pilot educational Mediterranean urban farm.

In partnership with the association Cultures Permanentes which will host our group, this project implements a bio-intensive approach based on the principles of permaculture and successive agroforestry.

Inspired by ecosystems and in particular primary forests, it is a question of relying on the complementarities between plants, successions, and natural layering, in order to aim for very high productivity on small surfaces, while regenerating the soil, welcoming biodiversity, and saving water.

The participatory work camp on the 23rd of November will consist of restoration of access paths, development of walls and dry stones, and working on hydraulic arrangements to encourage water penetration into the soil.

Secours Populaire

The Secours Populaire français has a global approach to poverty issues. It intervenes in the areas of food aid, clothing, access to and maintenance of housing, access to healthcare, socio-professional integration, access to culture, and more generally access to rights.

Throughout the year, Secours Populaire's solidarity actions are based on different campaigns: the "Don'actions", the "Printemps de la solidarité mondiale", the "Vacances" campaign, the "Pauvreté - précarité" campaign and the "Pères Noël verts". The initiatives carried out on the ground by the federations are linked to these.

Day after day, Secours Populaire acts here and elsewhere for a fairer and more united world, by enabling everyone to become emancipated and find their place as a citizen, wherever they live, work or study. Social support, listening, and guidance, to enable each person to regain the rights to which they are entitled and to become involved in the association are the main values of Secours Populaire.

Nearly 2,000 tons of food are distributed to 120,000 people each year. Hundreds of tons of clothing are collected and distributed too by 4000 volunteers.

This activity is open to 30 pax in order to prepare food parcels but also Christmas toys parcels for kids, storage, sorting of second-hand clothes, stock, and inventory. If you wish to help the Secours Populaire’s team to prepare those parcels, please feel free to join the team! And of course, don’t forget your water bottle!
