Lifeshift - Climate Change and Lifestyle
Lifeshift is a short training course for youth leaders, with activities for 16+ year old young people about sustainable lifestyles in response to concerns about climate change - lifestyle change for climate change.
To train youth leaders/ trainers so they can train and support young people at youth events to act as socially and environmentally responsible european citizens, consumers and communicators, responding actively, collaboratively and creatively to the challenges of climate change.
This is an example of education for sustainable development.
The course is described in the attached file.
Each activity has different steps.
I would use a few sample activities from the course, as well as discuss the structure, planning and evaluation of the activities and course.
I would need flipcharts, post-its, pens. I would bring a copy of the Youth Xchange Handbook - Climate Change and Lifestyle as a free downloadable guide, which I jointly wrote for UNESCO/ UNEP in 2011 - www.unep.org/pdf/YXC_CC_Single_Pages_230911.pdf.
Simply - young people with lower impact lifestyles.
Lots of different activities to suit the youth workers available time, the group's interests etc.
Needs some motivation to change lifestyle, which often means overcoming other challenges firstly in the young person's life.
The 50 or so activities are available in more detail from SustEd - Sustainability Education, and their website http://learnsustainability.weebly.com
This could be a 60 minute Working with tools workshop, with practical activities for participants.
This workshop has been run many times before for different groups from 60 minutes to 6 days.
