Let's Talk is an interactive game about people conflict and communication.Your mission in this game is to challenge yourself,your habits,and the others to transform the conflict in play.The game is inspired from real life conflciting situations in Lebanon


Let’s talk provides guiding principles on how to work with youth and to promote their role as agents of positive change within their communities by engaging them and helping to take decisions and take the lead. This tool equally empowers youth and leaders with transformation skills to peacefully address their conflicts within their communities. Additionally it’s a practical training tool for trainers and facilitators on interpersonal and intra-communal conflicts; this tool promotes conflict facilitation skills among youth in addition to such values as empathy, relationship building, deep listening, nonviolence, and creativity


the tool is a cooperative learning as well as a discovery based learning that presents an opportunity for cooperation and building mutual and common grounds with other parties involved in the conflict.

Step by step process: 

1.            before the start1.1.         The facilitator welcomes the players and the audience1.2.         The facilitator gives each player an Individual Role Sheet (IRS)1.3.         The facilitator gives 10 minutes to each player to individually read and fully understand his or her role in the game.1.4.         Meanwhile, the facilitator ensures to seat the audience of each player in their designated areas. The facilitator explains to the audience their role and their scoreboard.1.5.         When the 10 minutes are up, the facilitator meets each one of the players privately and makes sure that the IRS has been fully grasped and understood. The facilitator should emphasize on the importance to play the character mentioned in the IRS.1.6.         The facilitator ushers each player to his/her seat.1.7.         A nametag will be given to each one of the participants and will be positioned on the board on a dedicated space.1.8.         The facilitator explains the board game and its different constituents.1.9.         Each player positions his/her 4 smaller tokens on the objective meter and relationships meter according to their IRS.1.10.      Each player will be given 3 time cards to be used at anytime during negotiation.1.11.      Each player positions his/her token (blue, red, green or yellow) on the Starting Square.1.12.      The player’s colors determine who will start. The player with the BLUE color always starts followed by the others.2.            During the game2.1.         Each player is asked to present him/herself with the sentence in bold included on his or her IRS without referring to the conflict.”2.2.         The facilitator will share the first event on the “Conflict Events” sheet. Similarly at the beginning of Round 2, 3 & 4.2.3.         Each player throws the dice and moves the token across the board.  2.4.         Each round ends when the 4 players meet at “Let’s Talk” square.  2.5.         At the completion of each round, players reposition their tokens on the Objective Meter and the Relationship Meter in a way that reflects the current status of their objectives and relationships.2.6.         At the completion of Round 1 or 3, each player fills his or her feeling scoreboard.2.7.         At the completion of Round 2 or 4, each player fills his or her need scoreboard and shares the results of their feeling and need scoreboards.2.8.         At the completion of each round, each Audience is asked to fill their scoreboard. 3.            End of the gameAfter the completion of the rounds:3.1          The players reposition their smaller tokens on the Objective and Relationship scale for the last time3.2          Each Audience finalizes their scoreboards’ results3.3          The scoring can be either calculated following Round 2 or 4. It should only be discussed when the facilitator announces the end of the game. 3.4          Following the completion of the Final Scoreboard, the facilitator starts the debriefing phase.

at the end of the long term practicing of Let's talk, partiicpants will be able to experience: In Terms of Knowledge•        Understanding conflict transformation concepts and terminology•        Understanding the various personality traits and conflict styles•        Learning the difference between positions, interests and needsIn terms of Skills•        Acquiring skills to engage with people with different conflict personalities•        Learning how to mitigate interpersonal conflicts•        Developing an “evaluation-free-lens” which leads to having less assumptions while observing and understanding more, thus putting oneself in the shoes of the other•        Practicing communication and Listening skillsIn terms of Attitudes•        Acquiring readiness to reflect and understand other parties to a conflict before judging them•        Being more soft on people and increasingly tolerating their conditions/circumstances•        Becoming focused on the process more than results when dealing with conflict•        Aiming at always balancing between achieving one’s objectives and maintaining relationships 


During the reflection and preparation phase of the board game, “Let’s Talk!” was played several times in three different Lebanese communities: Beirut Arab University (BAU), Rawda high school (in Beirut) and Yammouneh Club (Bekaa region, East Lebanon) and with the Syrians community in LebanonBefore the starting date of the communities' actions, we selected seven volunteers from each community and gave them capacity building training and explained to them the process of playing the board game. They have also chosen a specific conflict taken directly from life in their communities and "played" it through the game. The conflicts were about a love story, gender discrimination and a problem between students and teacher.The 21 volunteers, trained and well-equipped, were excited more than us to get the feedback on the board game in their communities. Therefore, they played and disseminate "Let’s Ta!k" in their surroundings.Internationally, the game also was played in Malta with several youth coming from Spain, Lebanon, Palestine, Egypt, France and Malta.The discoveries we made during the preparation and during the training course, the feeling of growing and learning about something you have been denied, were so great that I felt the impulse to learn more. And now I have more comprehensive knowledge and a fighting spirit which, in a sense, drive me to carry on working towards a goal in which I believe.But the questions of limitations and challenges remain:  

  • How can we provide opportunities for more young people to be trained in tolerance, acceptance of differences, and respect for diversity?
  • How can we encourage and empower young people to be a part of change and promote their participation in society?
Notes for further use: 

Let's Talk can't be provide to facilitators who didn't have intensive or advanced  trainings in conflcit and peacebuilding as well as not trained in the board game
